Manchester City are winning games by the skin of their teeth. Just hours ago, the Cityzens clinched a narrow win against Brentford, courtesy of a winning goal by Erling Haaland. Although the Norwegian striker came to his side’s rescue, fingers are being raised over his performance after his return from the injury. However, Pep Guardiola has come in defence of his star player, insisting that ‘sooner or later he is always there’ for the team.

Once again, City struggled to assert their dominance from the start, as their only goal of the night came from their star No. 9. Yet, negative limelight is being shed on Haaland over his lack of finding the net. But Guardiola was quick enough to send a major warning to the 23YO’s critiques. Speaking in the post-match press conference, he said, “When I was young, a friend of mine told me to ‘never criticise the top scorers, they will shut your mouth.’ So sooner or later he [Haaland] is always there.” The Spanish tactician asked to exert patience over Haaland.

“He came after two months, had an incredibly tough last week. He lost his grandmother. It is not easy for a human being. Of course, he is not in his best shape but it’s normal,” he added. Notably, this is the third goal that Haaland has scored since his return from exile. Earlier, the former Dortmund man had scored a brace against Everton.
