An Australian sprint canoeist and K1 1000 Champion has his eyes on gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Since taking up paddling in 2012, he has won K2 and K1 Championships. After securing an individual Olympic berth, the K2 gold medalist now aims for the top spot on the podium.

The K2 winner previously received the SAHOF Scholarship and credited his early victory to his mentor, Grant Hackett. He stated, “It is an honor to receive a SAHOF Scholarship and to have been recognized by my peers. Being mentored by Grant Hackett, a sporting great, is a privilege that will help make my sporting dreams a reality.

Canoeing closer to the 2024 Paris Olympics

After his triumph of individual berth at the K1 1000 finals in Sydney, Olympic gold medalist, Tom Green has his eyes on the 2024 Paris Olympics. Finishing early in Denmark’s canoe marathon which comprised world champion Mads Brandt Pedersen and South Australian Maguire Reid, it gave Tom Green a front run for the grand Olympics. “Coming out with the win, it’s good to do a good time and put out a solid race. We came here to win and get the spots for the Olympics – happy with how the K2 went, as well as the K1.” Green stated to Narooma News Online.

His victorious wins both, at the Canoe Sprint Grand Prix 2 and Oceania Championships have boosted his career growth, leading him closer to his ultimate goal – The Olympics. It is a well-known fact that the 2021 Tokyo Olympics’ K2 500 was also won in partnership with Jean van der Westhuyzen, by Tom Green in just 3:15:28 minutes. This while, the Australian canoers will head for the Canoe Sprint National Championships at the beginning of March 2024.

Another winner of the day

It wasn’t just the K1 500 championship that occurred lately, but also the C1 1000. The finale of the C1 1000 was won by Ben Manning, another Australian canoer. Like Tom Green, he also secured his Olympic quota slot by winning the C1 1000.
