This is an event that will go down in history so it makes sense that Sabrina acknowledged during a live presser that her nerves are getting to her. The WNBA 3-Point Champion said, “If I wasn’t nervous, I don’t think I’d be human.” On the flip side, Steph is all fired up to take on one of the WNBA’s best shooters.
When the 2X MVP was asked what outcome he expected from the match-up, he confidently and playfully replied, “There’s only one outcome though, it’s that I win, right? So I’m excited to go out there and shoot with her.” Despite the confidence, he also praised his opponent for her incredible skills on the court. He added, “She’s unbelievable. Unbelievable shooter, unbelievable player.”

In another new development, sports writer Tim Reynolds shared a hilarious post on X, where he wrote, “A man was heard booing Sabrina Ionescu during her practice session yesterday for tonight’s Steph vs. Sabrina shooting contest,” Wait for it… “Yes, it was Steph.” That’s undoubtedly Steph being Steph, keeping it light and exciting for everyone. It is clear by now that the two sharpshooters have immense respect for each other.

Last year in June, Sabrina set a new record across the NBA and WNBA by scoring 37 points in the WNBA 3-Point Contest. It was previously held by Steph with 31 points. Their contest will determine whether Steph will redeem himself or Sabrina will set a new record.
From phone screensaver to opponent
For Sabrina, who grew up idolizing Steph Curry, the upcoming match is a dream come true. From idol to opponent, Sabrina’s journey of standing off against Steph is magnificent. In an interview, she even admitted, “He used to be my background screensaver, I used to have wallpapers, everything you could think of up in my room. This is a pinch-me moment knowing what we’re able to do this next weekend is every kid’s dream.”
