Air Jordans played a massive role in cultivating the sneaker culture we see today. For many fans, the sneakers are a way of life. For Michael Jordan‘s son, that is doubly true. The former University of Central Florida guard was back on the hardwood yesterday but not without a trusty pair of Jordans to boot. He showed off his latest “gymrat” look on Instagram recently.

With Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s new song ‘Hoodrat’ playing over his story, Marcus Jordan first shared an image of him at Harvard Westlake School’s indoor court in Los Angeles. He captioned the story “Gymrat” and tagged the Harvard Westlake Coach who seemingly got in a workout with Marcus. On Jordan’s next story, he shared a snap of his kicks, the Air Jordan 12 Retro Taxi.

This pair is crafted from calf leather with a white hue complimented by black borders and was originally launched in 1997, the year of Michael Jordan’s fifth championship. Marcus Jordan shared a glimpse of the shoes on his Instagram story. Along with the image, he wrote, “Today’s J’s.” 

Marcus seems to live and breathe Air Jordan. While the 33-year-old couldn’t continue the the Chicago Bulls legend’s legacy on the court, he did it off-court with his business, the ‘Trophy Room.’ But years before he opened his own boutique, Michael Jordan’s son was already displaying his fierce loyalty for his father’s brand.

Marcus Jordan wore Air Jordans even when his team was signed with Adidas

Did you know that Marcus chose to don Air Jordans during his college basketball, despite being suggested against it? During his freshman year, the University of Central Florida was in the last year of a shoe and apparel deal with Adidas. However, Marcus insisted on wearing Air Jordans in his game against St. Leo University. Ultimately, the university lost its five-year extension with Adidas and lost the game 84-65 as Marcus’ shoes made the headlines.

Marcus Jordan’s basketball journey began at Loyola Academy and Whitney Young High School. Following that, he joined the University of Central Florida, where he played from 2009 to 2012 averaging 12.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. After the end of his college basketball career, Marcus started his luxury sneaker boutique.
